Is Law School Worth it

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/04/opinion/is-law-school-a-good-investment.html

This article discusses the dream of going to Law School and becoming a lawyer. It gives a realist side of how hard it is for our generation to enter the job market. This relates to the topic of meritocracy. In reality if a person works hard and follows the rules they are not promised anything in life. In fact if they do go through law school and put in the time and investment they could end up worse than before. In present day America the youth are told they can do anything if they work hard enough, however that is not the case.

  1. I agree with your comment about the current generation's struggle to successfully enter the job market. Working hard unfortunately does not give the direct avenue to live out one's "American Dream". People's opportunities will greatly rest upon designated circumstances placed by society. A person coming from a tumultuous family background with a lack of resources will be at a greater disadvantage than a person with all the resources and supporting family. This does not mean that a person coming from a difficult background can't be successful, but from the start they will have to beat more obstacles than someone having a more favorable position in society.

  2. I think American dream means "a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility achieved through hard work"wikipedia) Every one has a different dream about what he or she hopes to achieve. In other words, the dream itself might not be what one can get through the job but what one can give to the society after graduation. Like the third letter, Jeremy didn't gain much in his job, but he loved what he could help. I am not sure whether it is worth going to a law school, but I personally disagree with using money judging law school.
